Crawl space insulation removal pulls down old fiberglass batts that have soaked up moisture, fallen out of the joists or been damaged by pests. Cobb bags it out, cleans the area and fits new insulation. Removal is about $0.85 per square foot and new insulation about $1.75 per square foot. Removal is included in our Gold and Sapphire encapsulation packages.
Why crawl space insulation fails
Fiberglass batts between the floor joists act like a sponge in a humid crawl space. They get heavy, sag and fall, leaving gaps that let cold floors and high bills follow. Wet insulation also holds moisture against the wood, which feeds mold and rot, and it's a favorite nesting spot for rodents.
Signs it's time
- Batts hanging down or lying on the crawl space floor
- Insulation that's dark, stained or wet to the touch
- Droppings, nests or tunnels in the insulation
- Cold floors in winter
What we do
- Old insulation is pulled down and bagged out of the crawl space.
- Framing is checked for mold, and treated if needed (see mold remediation).
- New insulation is fitted snug between every joist, or the walls are insulated as part of a Gold or Sapphire encapsulation.
